Neatline Response
I think that navigating Neatline has been a little bit difficult for me. In the beginning, I had trouble with getting the zoom of the map to move to where I wanted it to be. I would try clicking and trying to drag the map to certain areas, but it was not working for me. It was also challenging to get the map to zoom in on certain areas when a viewer clicks on an entry. However, I eventually figured out that the problem was that I needed to adjust the restricted map limits and the default zoom parts in the settings of my Neatline exhibit. At least for me, I think that Neatline took a little bit of learning to understand how to implement these types of things.
I think that Neatline is interesting though. I like how you can point out certain locations and give descriptions on them. You can have a timeline that lets you connect places with the years of when something happened. In Michelle's Neatline exhibit, I thought it was interesting how she could compare two pieces of literature and its locations by using different colors to note which locations correspond to which piece of literature. I think that doing something like this exhibit would be helpful in sorting through and comparing different texts.
I have not tried using Neatline for any of my research excursions yet, but I wonder what else we will end up doing with Neatline throughout this quarter in our Cultures and Ideas course.
Michelle did a very great job with. her neatline, I hope to be that advanced one day!
ReplyDeleteI started just like you guys! I was very frustrated. I have been playing around with this for years and there is still a lot I'm not very good at, so just keep trying and it will get easier!
DeleteI think a lot of us had frustrations with Neatline! It's a cool tool, but really not a great user experience.
ReplyDeleteI totally empathize with your experience. While I was making my Neatline project, the map was zoomed in to California when my exhibits were mostly in Europe and the Middle East. I think it is a cool resource, but not the easiest to figure out.
ReplyDeleteI had issues with the zoom feature too! Neatline isn't super user-friendly, but I'm sure we'll figure it out eventually--at least, I hope so.
ReplyDeleteI totally relate with the zoom feature as well! I am still uncertain if my exhibits are showing up where I want them to.
ReplyDeleteI get what you mean, the Neatline user interface is pretty clunky. They could definitely update it to make it much more user friendly.
