Election 2020
I think that the election of 2020 is an especially important presidential election as so many things are on the line like rights, climate change, and a pandemic. This week has been stressful and nerve-racking as I find myself constantly checking the results of each state's votes. In class I would even sometimes have another tab for the election news open to the side of my Zoom class, and I would refresh it periodically throughout the class. As the days have gone on, I am trying to avoid the election news a little bit because I think it is a little bit unhealthy to keep obsessively looking at the numbers. In a lot of the states, the votes for Biden versus Trump are super close, which made me realize just how important every vote is. I also think it is great that so many young people are so involved in this election. Typically, young people do not vote, but I think a lot of young people did in this election, which is really great.
In my family/extended family, there are Biden supporters as well as Trump supporters, which is unfortunate because this election is leading to a lot of heated conversations between my extended family members. I try to avoid bringing up politics with family members because some family members may agree with me while others may not, which leads to a lot of arguments.
I have seen a lot of TikToks about this election claiming that no matter who wins, there is likely to be protests or violence. I don't know if that's true or not.
I totally agree with you on the fear this election has stirred fear within the people. Like you, I hope that there isn't too much civil unrest once results finally comes out.
ReplyDeleteIt's so cool to see that young people are voting more than ever before, but the circumstances that are forcing people to take action are less than ideal (COVID, racism, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI agree that this election has shown that every single vote counts, which didn't feel true living in the very blue state of California. I also have supporters of both sides around me, which has made for some tense couple of days.
ReplyDeleteSo far nothing destructive has happened, but I still worry there will be one...
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely still a lot of concern about white supremacists and hate groups committing acts against minorities, but mainly it's all been celebratory and high-spirited!
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing a lot about possible violence too...I hope things stay safe and relatively quiet
ReplyDeleteI agree with your points and also think this will drastically increase voter turnout in the years to come as we all realize the importance of an individual vote.
