COVID-19

The news about the coronavirus is not good as cases continue to soar, especially after the holidays.  The United States had its deadliest day from the pandemic a couple of days ago as well.  It is definitely a really sad time right now that we are living in, and I never thought the coronavirus would go on for such a long time.  I originally thought it would just be going on for two weeks back in March.  The news about the vaccine offers some hope, but I know that there are a lot of people who are still reluctant to take the vaccine, and there are not really enough doses for everyone yet.

As for going to campus, I applied for housing at first, but eventually I decided to cancel my housing contract at the last minute because my family and I just thought it would likely not be safe to live on campus.  My dorm assignment would have had communal restrooms too, which I am a little bit suspicious of during a pandemic.  I was really sad that I cancelled my housing contract, but I think safety is super important right now.

I hope that one day it will be safe to go to campus and experience living in the dorms.  It is pretty boring to just be staying at home and doing school online.  Not being on campus makes school a bit less enjoyable, but I am trying to make the best out of it.  I am just hoping that we get some good news and that this pandemic ends soon.

  1. Hey Kiana, I really admire the courage it must've taken to rescind your housing contract -- that must've been a really hard choice to make. I hope your time with online school gets better and you find more enjoyment with remote classes.

  2. It is very hard to stay interested and focused when school is online

  3. I also thought this pandemic would only last for two weeks. I remember my brother, who goes to college in New York City joked back in early March that he was going to lick a sidewalk to "take one for the team". Little did we know that this pandemic would last as long as it is.

  4. Looking back, it's hard to believe that we've been at home for almost ten months. At this point, personally it is very, very hard to imagine a time when we all used to physically go to school or spend time outside without masks and social distancing.

  5. I was also very suspicious of having communal bathrooms, and I'm low-key glad that I don't have to choose between my safety and missing out on on-campus life

  6. It's insane realizing how close we are to the one year anniversary of COVID taking the country by storm. If we had as many vaccines for each time I've heard the phrase "unprecedented times," society would have returned to normal by now, but for the time being I have no idea when all of this will end.

  7. I think it's so funny how my high school thought we would be back by May... I know the vaccine won't be widely available until summer at the earliest, but I'm really hoping to have a normal spring quarter.

  8. I definitely relate to a lot of the same feelings you have! I also cancelled my housing contract at the last minute in favor of a safer option. I really hope we can all be on campus soon, and I'm feeling optimistic for spring quarter!

  9. I totally get what you mean, and I feel the same way! I hope we can get to campus soon. This is rough.

  10. Haha, I was also not feeling the communal restrooms either. They definitely made the right call about bringing us back although it is tough. Definitely hoping for a normal spring quarter and if not that a summer. Hopefully just a couple more months to tough it out.
